Proofread
Proofreading is checking work for spelling, grammar and formatting errors. This should be done when a project is otherwise complete, and no changes would be made to the content.
Copy Edit
Copy (or, “line”) editing is improving a completed work line by line, with suggestions on sentence structure, word choice, introducing themes and maintaining a consistent voice. This does not include suggesting changes to the piece as a whole.
Developmental Edit
Developmental (or, “substantive”) editing is making suggestions on the work as a whole. For a novel, this could be improving pacing and suggesting changes to the plot. For an essay, this could be rearranging the order of points to build a stronger argument. This service will likely include some line edits.
